PROF. DR. OLIVER TESSMANN heads the Digital Design Unit (DDU) at TU Darmstadt. Together with TU Stuttgart and eight leading planning offices, the DDU is part of the Innovation Network AI in Planning, founded in January 2025 with funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs. The aim of the network is to make today’s planning processes more efficient and resource-friendly through AI applications—while at the same time enhancing architectural quality. Almost every software application used in planning is currently being expanded with AI-based functionalities.

What are the key research fields around Generative AI and Machine Learning? Where are their potentials already unfolding in practice? And what does it mean for architects and clients if, in the future, planning can be automated (at least technically) from the first sketch all the way to building application readiness?

An evening about AI as an idea booster—between efficiency gains and building culture.

Moderation: Nadin Heinich
