Cook & Cross
with Max Hollein through the new städel

Max Hollein – art expert and manager – speaks the language and knows the codes of both worlds. With degrees in business administration and art history, he has been director of the Städel Museum since 2006. As such, he heads one of the most renowned German art museums with the oldest civic foundation in Germany. In February of this year, the underground Garden Hall was opened – a 3,000 m3 extension for contemporary art. 26 million euros for the Städel’s renovation and expansion were raised through donations alone – from small amounts by text message to yellow rubber boots and major corporate contributions.

How do you stage a museum renovation as a “citizens’ movement”? How can a museum have an impact on the city and inspire people of all ages? Max Hollein takes us on a tour of the new Städel Museum. The evening will end with wine and an Italian menu at Gennaro’s.
