Cook & Cross
A VISIT TO STUDIO UNGERS

M. Ungers already infused his first combined residence and studio, erected in 1959, with radical formalism. For 30 years it was repeatedly adapted to the changing conditions of his life and work. While no one lives in the brick building anymore, it has recently become open to visitors as a museum dedicated to Ungers’ work. Paintings and graphics hang close to each other on the walls, while sculptures can be found on shelves, the floor, and in the courtyard. Ungers’ unique collection of architectural books covers over 600 years of architectural history, most of them in first editions, and forms the basis of the UAA Ungers Archive for Architectural Studies.

Ungers’ daughter, the art historian Sophia Ungers, will guide visitors through Haus Ungers together with the architectural journalist Barbara Schlei. Schlei is responsible, among other things, for the internet magazine koelnarchitektur.de. Since 2004 with her format ArchiPedes, she has been designing architectural tours to fascinating locations in and around Cologne. Afterwards we invite you to join us at the restaurant ACHT.
