Sensing Space

Future Architecture by Technology? . Munich . 22.06.2010 . with Tim Edler, Amandus Sattler, Mette Ramsgard Thomsen et al.

01 | 07 •

To what extent can spaces emerge through the integration of new technologies that move us, and in the best cases, allow us to feel more “at home”? Can architecture offer an adequate response to the changing needs of a mobile, globally networked society? In two keynote lectures, Tim Edler from realities:united (Berlin) and known for his façade installation BIX for the Graz Art Museum, and Mette Ramsgard Thomsen, head of the Center for Information Technology and Architecture (CITA) at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen present current projects on the interface between architecture and technology.

In the closing panel discussion with Amandus Sattler, the following questions, among others, will be covered: How does the increasing penetration of new technologies on our daily lives affect architecture? Do the integrated technologies remain invisible—or could they become an architectural design medium? Does a “dynamization of architecture”—buildings that can change their expressions, atmosphere, or internal organization—await us in the near future? And what does this mean for human beings? How will we live in these high-tech rooms? Do we even want this?
